Why is CRI Important

CRI stands for Colour Rendering Index. The higher the CRI, the better the artificial light source is at rendering colours accurately. The lower the CRI value, the more unnatural colours appear when illuminated by the light source. This has become more important with emergence of LED, and poorer quality LED Chips. Skin colour tones can change a lot with poor CRI Values. CRI is important in retail shops, especially for flower displays, food, and make up stands. It is also very important in medical centres where symptoms can be seen in skin colours.

A CRI of 100 is the maximum value and typically we had very high ratings in the high 90s from an incandescent light source. LED lights typically have had a lower rating, but are now often between 85 and 93.

At Decrolux, we enjoy offering quality solutions. Nearly all of our fittings are available for projects with a higher CRI.
